journal response 2

Both reading talk about the story of games and how they’ve changed and what makes them so intriguing. More story-based games is what got me into wanting to write for video games, there’s so many good stories in video games nowadays told through every which way you can think of. I feel personally the story is the part I love the most about a game, it’s what keeps people constantly on edging wanting more and more. Its why so many people love movies and tv and all that. Games are different obviously where you don’t need a good story for your games to be good or successful look at fighting games for example. Most fighting game stories are tolerable or just not that good at all because most people aren’t playing a fighting game for the story people just care about gameplay. That’s how gaming took off in the first place, most games didn’t have a story. Adventure which was talked about in the reading was probably one of the first times that some resemblance of a story was there. In a way it snowballed to what games are today. Most successful games today focus completely on the story making me think that good stories are what you really need to hook people into games and then Nintendo rolls around and proves me wrong. Today both are obviously very important, but one can succeed without the other, the best games however have both which is why they are the best even if I prefer story most of the time.
